There’s a new tradition that is starting up, one that will involve many people. It is a great way to dispose of older unused mobile phones. It is called National Cell Phone Recycling Week. What a great concept to help others who may need a mobile phone but cannot afford one!
There are so many other types of awareness days or months to help people all over the world. This week focuses on recycling cell phones in a charitable manner that is one of the greatest ways to show you care. The Environmental Protection Agency is pitching in with this awareness due to the hazards of the old and unused phones. The disposal of the phones in landfills across the world is becoming a hazard too many are not aware happens. The phones contain toxic materials that absorb into the ground that contaminate the water and the ground leading to health risks for everyone.
Some of the toxins from the phones include copper, heavy metals, and plastics. The reusable materials from the phones mean less damage to the environment or the risks of horrible health problems such as cancer. According to the EPA, if more people would recycle their phones with the estimates based on the 100 million disposed cell phones, over 18,500 homes would be provided with electricity.
The charity is setup to provide free phones for different types of people in a variety of situations. With the help of the EPA and their formed partnerships with larger manufacturers such as AT & T, Sprint, Samsung, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless, this new awareness will reach many people. Each of the partners offer opportunities that include contests, online recycling, giveaways, and in-store savings. The businesses that offer these savings include LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy, and Sony Ericsson.
Take advantage of the savings with your contribution to help others who need your old mobile phone. You will be doing a large service to those in need, and the world with your actions. Who would ever have thought that a simple act of goodwill, such as giving your old phone to charity, would have such a positive impact on the world.
